Delta Mining and
Exploration Receives Results for the Grassrange District in Montana
LEWISBERG, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct.
26, 2005--Delta Mining and Exploration Corp. (OTC: DMXC) is pleased to
announce that it has received results from the Apex Geoscience Ltd.
("APEX") ground magnetic survey carried out this summer on Delta's
Grassrange District exploration targets in Montana. Ground geophysical
surveys (magnetics) were conducted at each of the Homestead, Three
Buttes, Teigen Butte, TV Hill, Half Moon and Rattlesnake Butte
targets.
At the Homestead Kimberlite, the
magnetic survey showed a series of magnetic highs/ anomalies over a
length of approximately 350 metres reflecting the hypabyssal
kimberlite body or bodies which are partly exposed at surface. One
portion of the magnetic anomaly at Homestead, to the east of the
buttes, indicates that the known kimberlite may be larger than the
surface expression or may be a separate buried hypabyssal kimberlitic
body.
Outcrops of hypabyssal kimberlite at
the peaks of the Three Buttes Kimberlite are reflected by magnetic
anomalies outlined during the survey. Again, the kimberlite(s) appears
to be larger than the surface expression based on magnetic anomalies
to the south and north-west. The entire array of anomalies at Three
Buttes covers a length of approximately 500 meters. At the Rattlesnake
Butte intrusion, a linear magnetic high which is continuous for more
than 400 metres is believed to represent a linear lamprophyric body.
At Teigen Butte intrusive, lamprophyric rocks exist which are defined
by the ground magnetic survey. At all of the Homestead, Three Buttes,
Teigen Butte, TV Hill, Half Moon and Rattlesnake Butte bodies,
carbonate breccias exist, which represent separate phases or
intrusions which are non-magnetic. The relationship between the
hypabyssal material and the breccia material is unknown at this time.
Future work which will include sampling the different phases or
intrusions for kimberlite indicator minerals and diamonds will better
determine the genetic relationship between the two phases or
intrusions at each of the different bodies.
Kimberlite and to a lesser extent
lamprophyres host the majority of the worlds known diamond deposits.
Generally, G10 pyrope garnets (as defined by Dr. John Gurney) have
been derived from the diamond stability field and are an indication
that a kimberlite may contain diamonds. Limited diamond indicator
mineral work conducted at the Homestead Kimberlite, by Delta, during
2001 demonstrated that G10 garnets exist. In addition a micro-diamond
has been recovered from the Homestead Kimberlite
Delta is awaiting further data
analysis from the survey results and will then be planning the next
phase of exploration in conjunction with Apex Geoscience Ltd.
